May 2004
To the Participants in the “Hair Color Technical Seminar”,
Sponsored by: Chemical Compounds Inc. and Celcor Inc.
RE: Textile Products and Services for Dye Evaluation, Development
and Illustration
Dear Friends,
Thank you for taking the time to invest in your profession
by attending this valuable seminar. We are confident you
and your clients will benefit from your participation.
Testfabrics, Inc. appreciates the opportunity to attend
this conference and to introduce you to its line of textile
test materials and services. We thank Mr. Eric Celleri and
his associates at Color Compounds Inc. and Celcor Inc. for
including us as parallel vendors to this specialized market.
Established to service the test material needs of the textile
dye and auxiliary chemical producers and users in the 1930’s,
Testfabrics, Inc. provides a complete line of textile piece
goods that are all specifically prepared to be dyed and/or
printed. These fabrics are not ‘loomstate’ fabrics,
they have all been properly desized, scoured, bleached where
necessary and ready to accept dyes and textile surface treatments.
Prepared for dyeing fabrics are available in all the major
fiber types.
Over the years, we have serviced many hair color laboratories
with products for their quality assurance testing, product
development work and product illustration.
Our style #541, a worsted wool gabardine (a quality wool
fabric commonly found in military dress uniforms and tailored
apparel) has been widely used to evaluate hair dyes and
related personal care products. We can provide this and
any of our other fabrics in pre cut pieces for easy use
in your laboratory tests. Please take a sample bag containing
5 pieces each of style #541, each piece is die-cut 2 inches
x 2 inches (5 cm x 5 cm). These pieces have ‘pinked
edges’ (^^^^^^^) to help reduce the amount of ‘fraying
out’ of loose threads in dyeing. The fabric is available
in full width (62 inches/155 cm) fabric or cut to other
specimen sizes as per your specific needs.
We also produce a number of ‘multifiber fabrics’
that are used for textile colorfastness test methods for
textile dyes and for dyed and finished fabrics. Some of
these multifiber fabrics are also popular among our hair
color clients for color development, quality assurance testing
and product illustration include:
a. AATCC Multifiber Fabric #1: This 6 fiber
composite fabric contains 8 mm stripes of filament acetate,
bleached cotton, spun polyamide (nylon), spun silk, spun
viscose and worsted wool. It is normally used in 2 inch
x 2 inch (5 cm x 5 cm) pieces with 2 heat sealed edges to
help prevent fraying in dyeing or washing tests
b. Multifiber Fabric #43: This popular
13 fiber fabric has 8 mm stripes of 13 different generic
fibers in a 4.5 inch (11/12 cm) wide ribbon style fabric.
Multifiber Fabric #43 is often used by dye producers and
distributors to check their production, their incoming dyes
and to illustrate the range of fibers their dyes will color.
It has a colorfast black thread at the top to help identify
the individual fiber stripes for mounting and interpretation.
This is available by the linear meter and in 2 inch x 4
inch (5 cm x 10 cm) pieces.
c. J C Penney Multifiber Fabric #49: This 10 cm wide, 8
fiber, ribbon type fabric has 1 cm wide stripes of the most
common apparel fibers: filament acetate, bleached cotton,
spun polyamide (nylon), spun polyester, spun polyacrylic,
spun silk, spun viscose and worsted wool. It also has the
colorfast black thread to help identify components after
testing. Used for colorfastness quality assurance testing
by suppliers of apparel products to J C Penney, it has wider
stripes of all six components of multifiber fabric #1 and
also includes polyester and polyacrylic components. This
is available by the linear meter in ribbon form and in 5
cm x 10 cm pieces.
Sample packs of these multifiber fabrics are available for
you to take along with the samples of style #541, a copy
of our current technical catalog and various company newsletters
for our clients in the textile and detergent/personal care
products industries.
Testfabrics, Inc. provides a number of valuable services
to its various client groups including the sourcing of other
materials, cutting and sewing of special test specimens
etc. Please do not hesitate to ask us for anything you need
that might help you perform your laboratory testing more
efficiently and economically.
We look forward to meeting you and to discussing your needs
for laboratory test materials and related products.
Sincerely,
Tom Klaas
Technical and Marketing Director
