Catalog and Literature Available

Our latest catalog and price list is available for you to take as well as previous editions of our detergent industry newsletters. Information and samples from EMPA, CFT and Savonnerie Anglais, Ltd. and related suppliers are also available.

Dr. Geoffrey Duncalf,

Savonnerie Anglais, Ltd.

We were fortunate to meet Dr. Duncalf some years ago at one of the Montreux Detergent Conferences and have become working associates as a result. Geoff has an impressive resume of past and current accomplishments in the international detergent and personal products industries. His most recent development is the ASP, Automated Soap Performance, and a unique evaluation tool for developing viable discriminatory data on the performance of laundry detergent bars and pastes commonly used in many parts of the world.

We are very pleased to be able to work closely with Dr. Duncalf and to help bring his ASP evaluation tool to our clients on his behalf.

New Products and Services

Human Hair Products for Testing

From our firm’s earliest history, we have supplied the manufacturers of hair dyes with our worsted wool fabrics, yarns and multifiber fabrics for their use in developing and testing dyes used to make hair color products.

Testfabrics, Inc. is developing sources in the market to bring human hair products to its clients for hair color testing and the evaluation of other hair care products.
This is a ‘work in progress’ but we are now in a position to offer an extensive line of human hair types including natural white, mixed levels of dark and white (‘salt and pepper’), light blond, bleached blond, oriental, Japanese, frizzy, curly, natural kinky etc. There are different standard lengths available, 15 cm (6 inch), 20 cm (8 inch), 25 cm (10 inch) and 30 cm (12 inch). Special patented swatching services for putting hair into woven test specimens is available as is custom blending and ‘perming’ of human hair. Prices are per pound and minimum order is one pound.

Both ‘Yak’ and ‘Goat’ hair products are also available as they have very similar appearance to human hair and provide an economic alternative to human hair for evaluation purposes.

If you have needs for human hair products and are interested in discussing this subject and learning more of what is available, please contact Tom Klaas at Testfabrics, Inc.

More Complete Line of Dyed Fabrics Without Post Dyeing Surface Treatments

Testfabrics, Inc. is very pleased to have established a working relationship with ‘creation Baumann’, a highly regarded Swiss textile producer of interior design materials. This interesting crossover technology bridge brings their tremendous number of dyed textile test materials to our detergent and surfactant clients. ‘creation Baumann’ prides itself on its color offerings and the lot to lot controls they have implemented in their processing. They have taken full advantage of the latest technology available in textile process controls.

While the thrust of their business is in providing these piece goods to the international contract interior design market, two of their cotton fabrics, ‘Ultra’ and ‘Unisono’ are lightweight and similar to some apparel weight grounds. To create the 90 plus colors available in these two fabrics, colorfast vat dyes have been employed, but there are no additional surface treatments such as resins or softeners applied to these fabrics. They are also available from 1 meter on up. Vat dyes have good light fastness qualities and good overall colorfastness qualities.

There are also some dyed inherently flame-retardant Trevira polyester fabrics available.

If you are interested in learning more about these materials, please contact Tom Klaas.New Standard Liquid Detergent without Softener or Optical Brighteners

We have a new liquid detergent formulation from AATCC that contains no softeners and is available either with or without optical brighteners. Developed for use in AATCC colorfastness to washing tests, this new liquid detergent is a generic formula (available on request) made to simulate a more realistic consumer detergent. This new detergent allows detergent formulators a pre-mixed detergent to which they can add their own auxiliary components without having to produce the entire product. This can save time and money in laboratory screening and development of new products. Please let us know if you are interested in this new product.

Shawn Meeks Elected to Secretary of ASTM D12 Detergents

Since joining Testfabrics, inc. in 1999, Shawn has become a valuable participant in the many professional committees whose members are instrumental users of our products and influential in developing testing protocols.

Shawn recently was elected to serve as the Secretary for ASTM D-12, Detergents. We are confident he will fulfil the duties as secretary well and be an asset to the committee and its membership.

Terg O Tometer Sales

The detergent industry continues to make good use of the popular laboratory bench top washing machine and we are glad to be able to assist our worldwide clients in obtaining one. Replacement parts are available for older machines and refurbishing services are also available. If you need a quote for new machine, please let us know.

NIR Textile Identification Systems

We recently became aware of a new NIR (near infra red technology) system to identify textile fiber fabrics within one second. The producer of these systems, Dr. Timur Seidel in Ratingen, Germany, had approached us for known fiber content textiles as a result of her work with a major multinational detergent producer interested in her identification systems. We sent her our swatch book and she was pleased that it actually contained samples that agreed with the fiber content as labeled and she is interested to work with us further. Please contact Tom Klaas if you have interest in learning more about this important tool in textile fiber identification.

Pre-Conditioning and Cutting of Test Materials and Laboratory Services

Many of our clients may not be aware of our laboratory’s capabilities to provide time and money saving services with respect to the test materials they purchase. One of our primary goals at Testfabrics, Inc. is reduce the amount of time consuming labor functions in your laboratory, thereby giving your technicians, formulators and other lab personnel more time to perform their important duties. We die-cut, stitch and sew, assemble multiple soil monitors etc. We also have consumer laundry equipment to ‘pre-condition’ test materials (i.e.: “3 Tide wash”) and subsequently die cut samples from those pre-conditioned panels.

Our laboratory can also provide custom dyeing of small amounts of fabric with known history dyes. We also dye larger amounts up through production quantities.

We do custom soil application using a printing machine, a lab padder and hand application methods.

We source materials for clients daily.

Remember, we are in the textile business for you! Please do not hesitate to ask us for anything you need, there is a good chance you just might get what you asked for!
